Oh! I know this! I do the same thing, I can't bear to watch that commercial, it's so heartbreaking to look at.
Congrats Al, on the new furry friend. Dogs are the best!
And rescue is great too. I went a number of years without a dog, mostly from living in apartments, it's too much of a hassle trying to find a place if you have a pet, etc. So when my girlfriend and I bought a house, I went looking.
I decided the breed I liked best and suited us best were Border Terriers.
I would have liked a puppy like most people, but the cost made them prohibitive for us, so we started looking at rescue. Usually though, you end up finding older dogs, but that's good too, giving a home to an older dog that needs a home - puppies and younger dogs can get homes easily, but older dogs......not so easy.
Our first was 10 when we got him. When he passed away, we adopted two, a brother and sister (10 years old) that had been together forever and rescue didn't want to separate. Last year, when Zipper (the girl) passed away, we adopted another one, although this one is the youngest we've adopted from a rescue at 4 years old - she was rescued from a puppy mill.
Okay, guess I've rambled off, anyway, congrats again Al on the new addition to the family!
