You mentioned "sputtering" Scott, did you have any other symptoms before the fail?

Yup. Actually, it was a prototype of the Supra~Luxe, the 6L6 powered amp.
On all counts, a rock solid amp. They built the cab, did the tweed work, and of course all the electronics. They have no qualms about spending more on their end if they can offer a better product. But in the case of the considerably more expensive Jupiter caps, more expensive didn't equal better. The good thing was, it didn't take long before the problem started to show itself. And they are smart in that when they build a new design, or make a design change in a current model, they put it through some real life testing.

I'm not sure it was exactly sputtering, I probably didn't use the right word there. More like a weak and flimsy note often accompanied by another weak note with it. Like you were playing two weak notes at the same time.
Pete has the amp now. He said he played it for 20 mins and didn't notice the problem, which troubles me and makes me doubt my own sanity, except that my wife also said she could hear it and kept asking me what was making that noise. But, Pete couldn't turn the amp up much before. I am waiting to hear back from him after he has a chance to crank it a little bit. The problem was noticable to me with the volume around 4 or 5.

Intermittent problems are maddening! I hope it messes up for Pete, too.

Yup. Filter caps more'n likely. I'll probably do them Thursday or Friday. Piss-all else to do those days (don't do December holidays).

You can't imagine the relief I felt when Pete said he was hearing it too. Made me stop doubting myself

Now if only Pete would start hearing that little guy on your shoulder, the one telling you to buy more guitars.

Scott, I'm glad Pete found the source of the problem. It sounds as if you'll be crankin a tweed again real soon.

THis is the correct bad bob pedal. Nothing I want. No guits, no amps, no pedals, hell, not even any recording gear now.

Man, Pete changed out the caps and it's still doing it. He has a spare OT and he's going to swap that and see if that's the culprit. Tres' Bummer.
