Supporting Memberships On OSG

The term “Supporting Membership” means exactly what it sounds like. In planning how to make Old School Guitar into a website that could be feature-rich for its members, a number of add-ons were installed. In the formative stages, prospective members gave input on what they thought would be important to them. These included the ability to host photographs on the site, to be able to have social groups where members with similar interests could host their own topic-specific discussions within OSG (and have the ability to delete posts within their social group), the ability to have larger Private Message box capacity, and to have avatars. Many of these features are server-intensive, either in the space they take up or the extra horsepower needed by a server to accommodate them and still have fast access speeds.

Subscriptions for supporting memberships are a means of making sure that the site can survive financially. In essence, each level of supporting membership helps pay the basic costs, plus helps pay for the bandwidth needed for the features allowed for each level. OSG will be free for anyone who wants basic service on the website, including the ability to place ads in our Marketplace areas. No member will have to donate or purchase a “subscription”. The following describes what Subscriptions are and what you get for them:

OLD SCHOOL GUITAR MEMBERSHIP LEVELS

What is a “subscription”? It is a software-based system where a member can purchase certain privileges on a year-by-year basis. We will have four different levels of membership. Here are descriptions of the levels:

Member: This is a totally free membership that allows members use of OSG, but without the extra features. They will have a Private Message box capacity of 40 PMs.

Supporting Member: The cost is $12 for a year and allows subscribers the following:
Expanded Private Message box capacity of
Can use a Custom Title
Can have an Avatar

Deluxe Supporting Member: The cost is $25 for a year and allows subscribers all of the Supporting Member perks plus:
200 PM limit
Can Form Social Group
Can have Image Gallery of 10 megs of space

Premium Supporting Member: The cost is $50 for a year and allows subscribers the following:
Deluxe Member perks plus:
500 PM limit
Image Gallery of 25 megs of space

Please note that if you are paying PayPal via an echeck, we don't receive the notification that changes a member to a subscribing member until the echeck clears PayPal! Also, in response to some questions asked, no, becoming a supporting member does NOT mean that you won't get infractions or a suspension if you break our rules. The same rules apply to everyone.
